DRAGANIC--DRAGANICH

DRAG means beloved or nice and Drago is Charles in English. The name is found in all parts of Croatia. The name is also Draganovich or the son of Dragan.

Draganich-Vrancich comes from the ancient Croatian nobility and represented an original clan that spread throughout Croatia.

Records go back  to 1332 for Draganich from the name Dragoja. The Venetians called them Draganich de Veranzio (Vrancich). This is how Croatian names changed during Venetian rule.

This is one of the oldest families in Sibenik. Nikola Draganich was a captain in the French Army in the 1600's and later was killed in battle serving the Venetian Republic at Candia in1660.

Vrancich also carries this coat of arms.
