BUTKOVICH-BUTKOVIC
But
in Croatian means ham. Butkovic is found all over Croatia in great numbers.
This
clan was found in Bilai, Butkovici, Gospic, Kaniska Iva, Komletinci, Ledenice,
Licki Osik, Majar, Podvrh, Povile, Rijeka, Sibinj, Vinkovci, VrpoIje and Zagreb
with smaller numbers at other places.
Arms
were granted to Peter on February 23,1650 by King Ferdinand III of Austria.
Also granted to Martin, Michael, George and Nikola. Original Arms are in the
archives at Vukovar.
We
also have ex-president Butkovich of the Croatian Fraternal Union.
Horizontal
lines are blue; verticle, red; right slanted, green; dots, gold; white, silver.
Many
of the Arms were granted for valor in battle, usually against the Turks as
Croatia was on the frontier.
