Adam S. Eterovich

BUTKOVICH-BUTKOVIC

But in Croatian means ham. Butkovic is found all over Croatia in great numbers.

This clan was found in Bilai, Butkovici, Gospic, Kaniska Iva, Komletinci, Ledenice, Licki Osik, Majar, Podvrh, Povile, Rijeka, Sibinj, Vinkovci, VrpoIje and Zagreb with smaller numbers at other places.

Arms were granted to Peter on February 23,1650 by King Ferdinand III of Austria. Also granted to Martin, Michael, George and Nikola. Original Arms are in the archives at Vukovar.

We also have ex-president Butkovich of the Croatian Fraternal Union.

Horizontal lines are blue; verticle, red; right slanted, green; dots, gold; white, silver.

Many of the Arms were granted for valor in battle, usually against the Turks as Croatia was on the frontier.
