Celebrations of the fest day of St Blaise (in Croatian, Sveti Vlaho), Dubrovnik patron saint, is celebrated since 972 AD, that is, continuously for 1040 years. This patron relates Dubrovnik and Croatia with Armenia, because St Blais was Armenian saint. The Festival of St Blaise is also the City of Dubrovnik Day. Croatian-Armenian friendship society has been founded in Croatia's capital Zagreb in 2003. Its current president is Croatian pianist Naira Astaryan of Armenian origin.

"I guess I have something with this mountain like no other," said Kostelic, whose third straight win in the Wengen slalom 15 January 2012 matched Swedish great Ingemar Stenmark. "To find yourself in the same sentence as Ingemar Stenmark is the greatest honour. Unlike many other racers I really am following the history of skiing. They were legends for me." But for Ivica Kostelic, this is fourth victory in career in the slalom in Wengen (2002, 2010, 2011, 2012) and he has the total of six victories and a total of ten podiums in Wengen, and that way he holds the absolute record. The impressive results. Congratulations.

Sena Jurinac was educated as an opera singer in Croatia's capital Zagreb, where she started her opera career in 1943. Since 1945 she was singing for the State Opera in Vienna, until 1982 when she retired.  Dominique Meyer, director of the Vienna State Opera, said the following on the occasion of death of Sena Jurinac: “We are mourning the loss of a legendary artist who shaped not only the Vienna State Opera, but also the entire opera world,’’ She died on 22 November 2011 at the age of 90.

In seminal experiments studying the developmental potential of maternal and paternal genomes by nuclear transplantation, professor Davor Solter was one of the first to postulate genomic imprinting. His research focuses on genetic and epigenetic mechanisms regulating mouse preimplantation development. He made significant contributions to many areas of mammalian development, including differentiation of germ layers, the biology and genetics of teratocarcinoma, the biology of embryonic stem cells, cloning, and reprogramming. Professor Solter was born in Croatia's capital Zagreb, where he studied medicine and earned his PhD. In the period of 1991-2006 he was the Director of the  Max-Planck Institute of Immunobiology in Freiburg in Germany, and now working in Singapore.

"Kuhar" in Croatian means "cook". So, Mr. Pino Kuhar from Croatia is Pino the Cook. But Kuhar is his true last name, not the nickname. Now, as a surprise, he was born in the village of Kuhari, that is, in the village of The Cooks! Employed as a professional chef, a few years ago he was proclaimed as the best Croatian chef - Hrvatski kuhar. So, Mr. Pino The Cook is distinguished chef born in the village of The Cooks in Croatia.

Klapa Grdelin was founded in Zagreb in February 2000. Throughout the years Grdelin has been exploring and expanding its repertoire that was performed at many concerts and festivals. The repertoire includes original Dalmatian songs arranged by famous composers and ethnomusicologists (Jakov Gotovac, Ljubo Stipišić, Dinko Fio, Duško Tambača and others), popular tunes adapted for klapa singing, traditional folk tunes of Lent and Christmas. Grdelin has found a valuable source of songs in the rich musical heritage of the city of Split and its surrounding area.

Frane Vranjanin or Francesco Laurana was born in Vrana around 1420, near Zadar. Laurana’s female busts, after they had been finally correctly attributed to him several decades before, by at the turn of 20th century came into the focus of interest of greatest German and French scholars. He is considered to be the greatest non-Tuscan and non-Venetian sculptor active in Italy in 15th century  With this article we mark 510 years since his death in 1502 in France (Avignon or Marseille).

Zdenko Bašić (1980, Zagreb) has graduated in 2005 at the Academy of Fine Arts, Department for Animated Film and New Media. He’s an award-winning animator and illustrator of many children’s books and magazines; predominantly Andersen and Grimm’s fairy tales. His illustrated book ‘Alice in Wonderland’ for the British,  American and French publishing market has been launched in 2010 by Carlton Publisher.
