(H,E) Our people in top 5% - Nasi Ljudi
|
Ovo pise direktor Graduate School u Milwaukee, WI, USA: This is written by Director Gradute of School Greetings: It has been awhile since we last communicated, but I wanted to let you know that last week Marko and Jasna passed the PHD Qualifying examination which is the biggest hurdle in the grind to the degree. They were both outstanding and clearly in the top 5% of all graduate students here over the past 25 years. Very soon they will be a great asset to Physiology in Croatia. Helen and I are doing very well. A month ago we spent 3 weeks in China which was a fantastic experience. However we will not be coming to Croatia this year. I know you are enjoying time in that great house you have on the sea. It brings back very pleasant memories. I hope all is well. Bert
Molim primite na znanje kakvi su (to dvoje ali i drugi, svi) nasi ljudi i - tako postupajte. Tamo ima jos mjesta. Srdacno,

(E) Croatian National Association Helping Brenda Brkusic's film

Croatian National Association Helping Brenda Brkusic's film
Good day to all,
My name is Milan Vukovic, I am the president of the Croatian National Association/Foundation (Hrvatska Narodna Udruga) headquartered in Los Angeles. Vido Artukovich, vice president of the Udruga, and I had the honor of attending the premier of Brenda's amazing film. We were so moved by it that we recommended to the Udruga that we help Brenda by coordinating fundraising screenings of her film.
We have been working with Brenda to have showings throughout Croatian communities in North America and to date we have received a response and are organizing screenings in Los Angeles, Cedar Falls, IA, Washington D.C., Chicago and New York.
If you live in one the above mentioned cities and you would like to help, what can you do? You can contact us and we will give you the contact information for your city so that you can help organize a screening or so you have the information to attend the screening.
If you live in another city you can help her by organizing a screening in your area. The film is so powerful that in cities with larger Croatian populations we are holding "free" screenings where viewers are asked to donate a contribution and the Croatian National Foundation issues each donor a tax deductible receipt. We can do that for you as well, or of course you can hold a screening and simply charge admission.
Another way to support the film is by going to the "Support The Film" button on Brenda's new web site www.freedomfromdespair.com
Other suggestions for help are most certainly welcome.
Sincerely, Milan Vukovic MilanVukovic@msn.com President Croatian National Foundation (818) 610-3388

Povitica in Kansas City on Food Network
If you want to purchase a video on how to make Povitica, make out a check to Povitica for $20.00 and send it to Povitica %Don Wolf, 3535 N 63 Terrace, Kansas City, Kansas, 66104.
80% of the proceeds goes to St. Theresa's orphanage in Zagreb, Croatia
Thel video was made with the help of a local TV station in Kansas City who donated the equipment. Steve Fracol, a Croatian American from Kansas City was the videographer and Emily Novak, whose parents came from Gerovo (same as mine) in Gorski Kotar his the baker and spokesperson.
The big bonus is the beautiful tamburitza music in the background. It was filmed in my Teta Agnes's kitchen
You are also invited to visit St. Theresa's orphanage at:

(E) A Million Quid For an Island
|
A Million Quid For an Island BBC News
Pebbly beaches, crystal clear water - but bring your own generator A string of tiny islands scattered off the Croatian coast are up for sale. Located along the country's pristine coastline, the islands are said to be attracting attention from people with deep pockets and a taste for privacy.
The islands may be strewn with pines and olives but owners will have to pay extra to lease their own beaches, as they remain government property.
Property in Croatia, is booming with brokers seeing a 20% rise in prices in some areas in just six months.
Croatia's Broker Real Estate are advertising the islands - which include a pair of twin islands and an L-shaped promontory - on their website.
"For your money you get an island in an idyllic setting," Peter Ellis of Croatia Property services told BBC News Online.
A 35,000-sq-metre island will set you back 1.5m euros, about £1m.
Although he is not managing the sale of the islands, he knows the kind of people who might be interested.
"People do ask about them, often celebrities wanting peace and quiet. But they are sometimes put off by the fact that you can't prevent anyone from coming to visit," Mr Ellis said.
