U2 legends of rock'n'roll are coming to Zagreb on August 9th and 10th 2009

The legends of rock'n'roll are coming to Zagreb
Nowadays, all kinds of music and so-called-music are becoming popular in Croatia. Many people wondering if quality of music still matters, or is it enough just to be a pretty girl/boy to create a hit, it will be a pleasant occasion for Zagreb to host a band such as U2.
Zagreb concerts are a part of their 360° Tour, scheduled for August 9th and 10th. The 10th of August concert was sold out in just a few hours, so organisers and the band arranged an additional concert, for which you may still buy your tickets. The concerts are to be held at Maksimir Stadium.
U2 has always remained truly a rock band, since it was formed in 1978 in Dublin, Ireland. A teenager named Larry Mullen pinned a 'musicians wanted' ad at Temple Mount School, probably not knowing what consequences would that have for three other youngsters and himself - a freshly formed band initially called 'Feedback'.
Those youngsters who applied for Larry's band were Paul David Hewson - Bono, Adam Clayton and David Howell Evans - The Edge. Larry provided the band with a rehearsal room - his kitchen - and the legend of U2 was set to go.
Bono Vox
Their passion for music has been well noticed since their first performances, and their local reputation soon spread to a worldwide one. The combination of Bono on vocals, The Edge on guitar, Adam Clayton on bass and Larry on drums became a trademark itself. 'U2-3' was the first single released by U2 in September 1979, followed by '11 O'clock Tick Tock' in May 1980.
Their debut album, 'Boy' was released in October 1980. Next album, released a year later, was 'October'. 'War', released in February 1983 brought them to the top of the UK charts and among the top 20 of the US charts.
'War' featured two of their hit singles: New Year's Day and Two Hearts Beat As One. Next was the band's first live album, 'Under A Blood Red Sky' released in November 1983. 'The Unforgettable Fire', from October 1984, was recorded in the ballroom of Ireland's Slane Castle, releasing another memorable hit - Pride (In The Name of Love).
In July 1985, the band contributed to Live Aid project - raising funds for famine relief in Ethiopia. The event was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium, London and JFK Stadium, Philadelphia, while an estimated 400 million viewers, across 60 countries, watched the live broadcast.
In March 1987, the Band released 'The Joshua Tree' containing more hits - the singles With Or Without You and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. The following album, 'Rattle & Hum' released in October 1988, featuring the number 1 single, Desire, and a collaboration with BB King, When Love Comes To Town. In November 1991, 'Achtung Baby' came out, bringing new sound of U2 in a series of more hits - The Fly, Mysterious Ways, and One. Next was 'Zooropa', recorded in a six-weeks period - the fastest U2 album ever, released in July 1993.
Bono and Nenad Bach
In November 1995, 'Original Soundtracks 1' a collection of songs written for imaginary movies, was released. Passengers - the pseudonym for Larry, Edge, Bono, Adam and Brian Eno - recorded this album in London and Dublin. The only single released from the album was Miss Sarajevo, featuring Luciano Pavarotti on vocals. The documentary film Miss Sarajevo by Bill Carter is about a beauty pageant held in the midst of war-torn Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Carter contacted U2 while their Zoo TV Tour to show audiences the reality of war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, feeling the western media was ignoring the human aspect of it. Carter and U2 arranged for a several satellite link-ups where they gave the Bosnian people an opportunity to be heard before thousands of people visiting the U2 concerts. The link-ups were brief and unedited. The single Miss Sarajevo was premiered in "Pavarotti and Friends" concert in Modena in September 1995. In the end of the song, Bono recited a verse from Dubravka, a pastoral written in 1628 by a Croatian poet Ivan Gundulić:
O lijepa, o draga, o slatka slobodo... (O beautiful, o beloved, o sweet liberty...).

Bono Vox and Nenad Bach were among those invited in 1995 by Lucian Pavarotti to participate in his humanitarian project "For the Children of Bosnia".
March 1997 brought a new album by U2: 'Pop', featuring themes of 'love, desire and faith in crisis', according to band members. It resulted in a new tour called "Popmart", with U2 as the first major act performance in Sarajevo after the Bosnian War. After a four-year period, the band released 'All That You Can't Leave Behind' in October 2001. Hit singles Beautiful Day and Walk On both won Grammy rewards - the first one in 2001 and the second one in 2002.
In November 2004, 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' was released, featuring singles that were inspired by band's early days: Vertigo, Love and Peace, City of Blinding Lights, and All Because of You.
In March 2005, Bruce Springsteen inducted the band into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame, describing them as 'the keepers of some of the most beautiful sonic architecture in the rock-and-roll world'. Finally, in March 2009 the band released 'No Line on the Horizon', followed by a new world tour - The U2 360° Tour in summer 2009. Band intends to visit 14 cities across Europe including Barcelona, Milan, Paris, Nice, Berlin, Amsterdam, Dublin, Gothenburg, Gelsenkirchen, Chorzow, Zagreb, London, Sheffield and Glasgow, finishing at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on August 22.
The tour continues in North America, beginning at Chicago's Soldier Field on September 12th, 2009.
