|The winning silk kimono named Croatia has been made in Tokamachi in the memory of the Croatian national football team's presence during the World Cup 2002 in Japan. The Mayor's daughter has worn it for the Croatian ambassador's birthday.|
On September 20th, 2008 in Hotel Belnatio in Tokamachi, the place where the World Cup 2002 Croatian national football team was based, the birthday surprise dinner was organized for the ambassador of Croatia Dr. Drago Štambuk by Tokamachi Mayor and local government.
Croatian ambassador was for the third time present at the Croatia Cup held in the memory of the Croatian football team's presence to open officially this traditional tournament and also to hand the cups to the winners in six categories. The tournament is taking place on Croatia pitch, each September since 2003. In the future the Croatian House is planned to be built at this same pitch.
Tokamachi has one of the most famous kimono factories in Japan, and the Mayor's daughter has borrowed kimono Croatia from the factory's exhibition rooms which has been made in the memory of the Croatian football team's presence there, and was granted the first prize for kimono at the Snow Festival in Tokamachi in February 2006. She wore this silk kimono in honour of ambassador's birthday. Also the cake was served, glazed with Croatian and Zagreb's Coat of Arms, from the roof of St. Mark's Church in Zagreb's Upper City.
The cake ...
... inspired by the roof of St. Mark's church in Zagreb, capital of Croatia.
Tokamachi (60,000 inhabitants) is located north of Tokyo in Niigata prefecture, among mountains, two hours away by Shin-Kan-Sen bullet train.
Winter Olympics were held in nearby Nagano in 1998.
Tokamachi's examplary emotional attachement to Croatia, ambassador Štambuk has saved in paradigm "Tokamachi factor" which he has made widely known in Japan.
