Mirna Brkanović, writer, director, cinematographer, editor
Mirna Brkanović was born 1970 in Zagreb, Croatia. She made her master in Literature, Croatian and South Slavic Philology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb in 1994. She then worked at different TV productions of Television Zagreb. In 1997 she started studying directing at the Academy of Television and Film in Munich, Germany, where she graduated in 2005. During her studies she realised several films for other productions.
"Hidden Truth" is her graduation film. At the moment she is working on her debut film.

MOJ PUT
Kad sam bila mala, htjela sam postati redateljica. Mladi i stari su se podrugljivo smješkali, rekavši da ću još sto puta promijeniti mišljenje, da ne sanjam o nestvarnom.
Sanjalica, sanjalica.... O nekakvim filmovima, o strašnoj realnosti života.
Čemu sve to, kad se mogu bezbrižno igrati i smijati? Poslušala sam ih. Djetinjstvo sam provela u radosti i ljubavi. Nitko mi ne može oduzeti tu snagu i sigurnost koju sam dobila. To tek danas shvaćam.
Zahvalna sam.
Moji su htjeli da se bavim muzikom, da nastavim tradiciju u obitelji.
Nisam ih poslušala.
Krenula sam studirati književnost, ali uvijek sa željom da budem bliže i bliže mojoj iskonskoj želji, mojem zvuku filmske trake.
Slušala sam sebe.
Redateljsku zamisao sam provela u djelo i to sa 26 godina.
Ostani vjeran svojim dubokim i istinskim željama, jer će one jednog dana i postati tvoja zbilja.
Bila sam presretna, ali i nesigurna. Želja je postala realitet. Kako s time živjeti? Stvarnost donosi unutarnja previranja: da li sam stvarno talentirana za stvaranje filmova, za pisanje interesantnih priča, što mogu ponuditi gledateljima, kako mogu poboljšati i senzibilizirati ovaj ludi svijet? Pitanja i pitanja….
U ovom vremenu u kojem živimo, apsolutno sam shvatila da želim svijet oplemeniti, učiniti ga humanijim, zadovoljnijim i dati mu sliku karaktera, ljubavi, poštenja, morala, etike, dostojanstva i zahvalnosti.
U filmskom svijetu i sam si u opasnosti izgubiti sve te osobine koje želiš unijeti u vlastiti film.
Ironija života...
Svaki film koji stvaram, ljubim i grlim svim svojim srcem , a on mi tako puno uzvraća i pokazuje mi moj put.
Ja sam sretnica.

MY WAY
When I was little, I wanted to become a film director. The young and old laughed sarcastically, they told me I will change my mind a hundred times, I am dreaming of something impossible.
Dreamer, dreamer... About the movies, about the terrible reality of life.
Why should I need that, when I carelessly can play and laugh? I listened to them. I spend my childhood in joy and love. Nobody can take away the strength and the security I gained. I understand this today.
And I am thankful.
My parents wanted me to pursue a music career, to continue the family tradition.
I didn't listen to them.
I went on studying literature, but always with the wish to be closer and closer to my original wish: the sound of the film reel.
I listened to myself.
I carried out my great dream of being a director when I was 26 years old.
Stay true to your deepest and inmost wishes, because one day they will become your true.
I was delighted, but also insecure. The wish became reality. How to live with it? The reality brings the inner flux: am I really talented to make movies, to write interesting stories? What can I offer the audience, how can I sensitize this crazy world and make it a better? More and more questions…
In this time we are living in, I absolutely realized that I want to enrich this world, make it more
human, more satisfied and give it a character with the tools of honesty, moral, ethics, dignity and thankfulness.
In the movie business you, yourself, are in danger of losing all this characteristics you like to bring in your own movie.
The irony of life...
Each movie I make, I love and embrace with all my heart, and it gives me so much in return and
shows me my way.
Finally, I am lucky.

CONTENT
Hidden Truth plays in a small idyllic harbourtown in Croatia. It is the turbulent story of Kate who has just lost her last family member, her grandmother. Upon her death Kate finds out who her father is - a German. As Kate is soon to be married, she needs to find her father. She manages to lure him into her proximity and begins to observe him secretly. But as when she decides to reveal herself to him, all takes a very different turn…
