CROATIA TO HOST "ACCESS TO INFO" CONFERENCE

 Zadar

How can access to information be provided for everyone? That's the theme of BOBCATSSS, an annual symposium organised by students from different European universities, being held in Zadar, Croatia in January.

From 28 to 30 January, participants will talk about barriers to accessing information, whether they are political, social, economic or technical - and then come up with ways to break through them.

Some of the lectures and workshops include: "information access for the marginalised" - a look into how literacy levels affect access to information by black urban women in Zimbabwe; "save police time: beat yourself up", which examines the problem of self-censorship; how to use open source software to reduce costs; and whether ICT in the workplace is creating access for all or just contributing to the digital divide.

BOBCATSSS is under the auspices of EUCLID (European Association for Library and Information Education and Research) and deals with themes on library and information science.

Registration ends on 14 January. For more details and to register online, see: http://www.bobcatsss2008.org/ or email: shop@bobcatsss2008.org
