The Croatian Film Festival New York City About CFF        Welcome! The Croatian Film Festival NYC is an annual celebration of the best that Croatian cinema has to offer. Our first annual festival will screen 21  films in multiple venues throughout New York. This year's films will be shown at the Tribeca Cinemas and at the Museum of the Moving Image. Each of these films represents new works by major Croatian directors. The opening reception and panel discussion regarding distribution of Croatian films in the U.S. will be held Thursday, September 13th at the Tribeca Cinemas at 6pm. A concert given by the Croatian group Svadbas will take place at the Knitting Factory on Thursday, September 13th at 8pm. Screenings at the Museum of the Moving Image are scheduled for Saturday, September 15th and Sunday, September 16th. The closing reception will take place at the Museum of the Moving Image on Sunday, September 16th at 6 pm. This will be the inaugural festival of what is to become a major annual cultural event in the Greater New York Area. It also represents a great opportunity for New York City as well as for numerous enthusiasts of foreign film to see the best in contemporary Croatian cinema. The Doors Art Foundation presents Croatian Film Festival NYC 21 new films from Croatia to screen September 13-16, 2007 at the Museum of the Moving Image and Tribeca Cinemas in New York. The Doors Art Foundation, with the support of  Croatian Ministry of Culture, is pleased to present the inaugural Croatian Film Festival NYC, a multimedia event which will take place September 13th through September 16th, 2007 at the Museum of the Moving Image and the Tribeca Cinemas. The festival  will present 21 Croatian films and will also include a panel discussion on Croatian film with Croatian critic, author and curator Jurica Pavicic as well as a special appearance by Croatian rock band Svadbas at the Knitting Factory. Formerly part of the dissolved state of Yugoslavia, Croatia is at the crossroads of Mediterranean and Central Europe, a popular travel destination with a burgeoning art and film culture that calls to mind Berlin in the 1980s. With a growing immigrant community in New York, Croatia is front and center of the international film scene, with dozens of new artists and directors presenting their work at film festivals and independent venues around the world. This is the fourth year that the Doors Art Foundation has screened contemporary Croatian films in New York, and the 2007 Croatian Film Festival NYC hopes to draw more attention  to Croatian filmmaking with the support of the Croatian Ministry  of Culture and Croatian companies, organizations and individuals interested in the expansion of its cultural values. The festival kicks off on Thursday, September 13 with director Arsen A. Ostojic introducing his film A Wonderful Night in Split (Ta divna Splitska noc), three intertwined love stories set on a New Years Eve within the ancient medieval walls of Split. Other featured films include Ognjen Svilicics Armin, a family drama about a father and son on their way to Zagreb for a film audition; Dalibor Matanic's I Love You (Volim te), about a young man who accidentally gets infected with AIDS; 2006 ; Slow Days (Ajde dan prodi) by Matija Klukovic, an experimental drama featuring a kaleidoscope of characters fantasizing about going abroad and leaving their homeland behind; Zrinko Ogrestas  Here  (Tu), a fascinating slice-of-life film that explores the lives of contemporary Croatians: and Dean Acimovics I Have to Sleep, My Angel (Moram spavat', andele), the story of a precocious nine-year-old boy whose parents are not getting along. The film festival concludes Sunday, September 16, with Branko Schmidts Melon Route (Put lubenica), a story about human trafficking inspired by the true story of twelve illegal immigrants who drowned in the river Sava on the border of Bosnia and Croatia. Other films screening as part of the festival include a selection of short films, animated films, and feature documentaries.
