Organic agriculture rising in Croatia

According to the latest statistics published by the Croatian government, organics are on the move in the country. There are 369 organic companies working according to organic standards, and more than 22,000 hectares of land are cultivated organically. At the same time, domestic demand for organic products is on the rise as well. The increase of organic businesses is remarkable, since only 130 were counted in 2003.

The Ministry for Agriculture supports organic agriculture with about 3,000 Kune (400 Euro) per hectare, which is double the amount as for traditional products. This is one of the efforts of the government to enable Croatia to meet with the organic standards of other European countries.
