ZAGREB, Croatia Actor Richard Gere on Thursday stepped into a villa on a hill just outside Zagreb - his temporary home while shooting a Hollywood movie on the hunt for one of the world's top war crimes suspects.

In "Spring Break in Bosnia," which is to be partially filmed in locations in Croatia and Bosnia, Gere plays a reporter searching for Radovan Karadzic - the Bosnian Serb wartime leader who remains at large nine years after being indicted by the U.N. war crimes court for genocide. He is believed to be hiding in Bosnia and Montenegro, changing locations regularly, and NATO-led searches have so far been in vain.

Karadzic, and his wartime military commander Ratko Mladic, who also is on the run, are accused of ordering a massacre of more than 8,000 Muslims in Srebrenica in 1995 - the worst carnage in Europe since World War II.

It is not publicly known yet who will play Karadzic in the movie - if his character even appears in it - but Croatian media reported that the cast includes Terrence Howard and Sigourney Weaver.

Gere is to travel to Bosnia later this week for initial shooting and then return to Croatia, where his agents have rented a luxurious villa for two months.

Auditions for extras have already been held in several Croatian cities and hundreds of people lined up for the chance to appear.
