All eyes on Croatia

Rebecca Heald reports on the latest excitement to emerge from
Europe's eastern playground

LONDON, New York, Paris, Milan, Zagreb: the latter might not yet be
on the fashion map but that is all set to change thanks to design
trio I-GLE's first independent catwalk show on May 7.

I-GLE: catch them if you can. Picture: Ivana Vucic

'I-GLE', Croatian for both 'sewing needle' and 'Hey, look!', was
established by Martina Vrdoljak Ranilovic in 1998 with Romano Decker
and Natasa Mihaljcisin joining in consequent years. Together they
have revolutionised the Croatian fashion industry attracting a
cult-like following of fashionistas and socialites the world over.

Taking shape: the collection hanging in I-GLE's Zagrebboutique

Citing 'the unexpected' as their main inspiration, their designs are
characterised by stray threads, complex layering, unusual colour
combinations and themes of disintegration and deconstruction.
Wildly anticipated in Croatia and beyond, I-GLE is following the
recent examples of Dolce & Gabbana, Julien Macdonald and other
enlightened designers by broadcasting the show across the globe via
a live webcast.  Log on to www.i-gle.com at 20:00 GMT (21:00CET)
to witness a show that promises to set new standards for both couture and the catwalk.
