One of the largest noncompetitive film festivals in Europe, Febiofest offers movies from more than 50 countries including previews of new releases, recent highlights of world cinema and some old favorites. There will be several guests and, for the first time, musical performances.

The biggest name on this year's guest roster is Roman Polanski, scheduled to introduce his new film, The Pianist, which will be shown here in its French version. Other guests include Gary Farmer, who will attend the screening of Powwow Highway in the North American Indians section. Actor Max von Sydow is scheduled to make an appearance to introduce The Emigrants, which is showing in a retrospective of films by Swedish director Jan Troell. Some films with actor Alain Delon are real classics of French cinema.
Many films, especially those from France, Northern Europe, Asia and in the gay and lesbian sections, have English subtitles. Most screenings are at Slovansky dum. Buy tickets early -- the lines get long and many shows sell out.
