Dokumentarac Branka Ištvančića Od zrna do slike nagrađen prvom nagradom u Los Angelesu

Dokumentarni film Od zrna do slike istražuje kulturu i umjetnički izričaj hrvatske nacionalne manjine u Vojvodini. Fokus filma je na slamarkama, bačkim narodnim umjetnicama koje su svoj idealni medij pronašle u slami iz koje su stvarale slike, skulpture i različite predmete.

Film oslikava povezanost njihove svakodnevice i umjetničkog izričaja, njihov specifični socijalni i nacionalni položaj, a protagonosti filma su istaknute slamarke Ana Milodanović i Jozefa Skenderović, povjesničar umjetnosti Bela Duranci, svećenik Andrija Kopilović te publicist Naco Zelić.

Kroz niz razgovora i autentičnih snimki, film ukazuje na osmaljenost pripadnika hrvatske zajednice u Vojvodini i potiče potrebu obnavljanja ove vještine i kulturne baštine koja postupno nestaje.

Jedan od protagonista Ištvančićeva filma je i Ivo Škrabalo, nedavno preminuli hrvatski filmski kritičar, povjesničar i redatelj, koji je 1971. godine na istu temu snimio istaknuti dokumentarac Slamarke divojke, po nekima i jedan od najboljih hrvatskih dokumentarnih filmova.

Autor filma Branko Ištvančić, redatelj igranih (Duh u močvari, 2006.) i nagrađivanih dokumentarnih filmova (Plašitelj komorana, 1998.), koji je inače i sam rodom iz Subotice gdje se odvija značajan dio filma, veliku je pozornost usmjerio na poetsku atmosferu i vizualno. Poseban naglasak stavljen je na kompoziciju kadra, njegovu puninu sadržajem i značenjem, kolorističku autentičnost i likovnost, baš kao i na same divojačke slike. Poruka je jasna: život i umjetnost ovdje nisu odijeljeni već čine jedan život.

Documentary From Grain to Painting by Branko Ištvančić is the recipient of the Gold Camera award for the best documentary and has been nominated for a Best of Festival award for Documentary productions in 2013 film competition of US International Film & Video Festival in Los Angeles.

Documentary From Grain to Painting explores the culture and artistic expression of the Croatian national minority in Vojvodina region. The film focuses on straw-girls, folk artists from Back, who found their medium of choice in ecological material of straw, using it to create paintings, sculptures and applied art objects. The film depicts the connection between their everyday lives and artistic expression, their specific social and national position. The film protagonists are famous straw-girls Ana Milodanović and Jozefa Skenderović, art historian Bela Duranci, priest Andrija Kopilović and writer Naco Zelić.

Through a series of interviews and authentic footage, the film promotes a renaissance of this craft which slowly, but definitely vanishes.

One of the characters in Ištvančić's film is Ivo Škrabalo, the recently deceased Croatian film critic, historian and director, who made a film on this subject in 1971, Slamarke divojke (Strawgirls), one of the best Croatian documentaries of all times.

Filmmaker Branko Ištvančić, the director of live-action (The Ghost in the Swamp, 2006) and award-winning documentary films (The Cormorant Scarecrow, 1998), born in Subotica, where a large part of the film takes place, devoted a lot of attention to the poetic atmosphere and visuals.
