This year marks the 11th anniversary of the internationally renowned “Julian Rachlin & Friends” festival held annually in Dubrovnik, Croatia, a platform for creative and vibrant projects with today’s leading musicians and actors. Julian Rachlin is one of the most exciting and respected violinists of our time. For the last 23 years, he has been captivating audiences around the world with his distinctively rich sound, superb musicianship and outstanding interpretations. He has established close relationships with many of the most prestigious conductors and orchestras.
Always willing to expend his musical horizons, Julian is also praised as a viola player and, most recently, as a conductor. Location and size
The city and port of Dubrovnik is situated in the very south of the Republic of Croatia. It occupies an area of 364 square kilometers and has a permanent population of approx. 42,000 (inside and outside the old city walls). It is surrounded by a group of islands known as the Elaphite archipelago (Šipan, Lopud, Koločep, Tajan, Olipa, Jakljan and Daksa).
Rich Cultural heritage
Dubrovnik, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979, has roots going back to the 5th century, with it being an independent republic from the 14th to the 18th century. it was a prosperous and multicultural city, living mainly from trade and opearating an important port on the Adriatic.
Croatian is the official language spoken in Dubrovnik. English is taught as a second language in schools, making it easy for tourists to be understood.
The geographical position of the area is typical of a Mediterranean with mild and damp winters, and hot dry summers with quite low air humidity.
The average air temperature is 17°C and the summer sea temperature is approx 21°C. There are many sunny days during the winter months. In July and August daytime maximum temperatures can easily reach 29 °C (84 °F), and at night drop to around 21 °C (70 °F).

Julian Rachlin and Friends is a chamber music festival traditionally held in Dubrovnik at the beginning of September. The founder of the festival is the Austrian violinist and violist Julian Rachlin who has been gathering his friends such as pianist Itamar Golan, cellist Mischa Maisky, violinist Janine Jansen, violinist, violist and conductor Maxim Vengerov and many other well-known musicians, to play together in the atrium of the Duke's Palace.
