Some of Croatian Christmas folk songs from the 12th century are still very popular. It is interesting that the Croats have more than 500 (five hundred) Christmas carols. There are Christmas verses that can have a dozen of different melodies, varying considerably from region to region. The number of Croatian Christmas carols is surprisingly large even in world's proportions. The oldest preserved texts of Croatian Christmas carols are from 1380, kept in th Paris Song Book, within the Croatian Glagolitic book called the Paris Miscellany, kept in the Bibliotheque nationale in Paris, sign. Code slave 11.

According to Dr. Miho Demović, a well known and very popular Croatian Christmas carol Narodi nam se kralj nebeski is from 13th century, and U se vrime godišća might be from 12th century, see Glas koncila, 25. 12. 2007, p 15. It is an old Croatian Glagolitic chant.

The Cathedral of Sv. Dujam in the city of Split is considered to be the oldest one in the world (7th century).
Previously it served as a mausoleum of Diocletian, a Roman Emperor (3rd/4th centuries).
